The Hofbräuhaus: hotel in Bodenmais

Our 4-star hotel in Bodenmais looks back on a history of over 500 years, which is closely linked to the fate of the town and its inhabitants. As early as 1522, the “Königliches Brauhaus” brewery was built here in the village to supply the miners. At the end of the 19th century, the brewery was acquired by the Fruhstorfer family and was transformed into a hotel in Bodenmais. The Fruhstorfer family managed the establishment through turbulent times: the economic crisis in the late 1920s and a devastating fire almost spelt the end for the family business. However, with a lot of hard work and perseverance, the hotel in Bodenmais was rebuilt and even expanded. After the Second World War, Bodenmais developed into one of the foremost health resorts in the Bavarian Forest, from which the Hofbräuhaus also benefited. In 1973, the Fruhstorfer family expanded the Hofbräuhaus with a large extension, and in 1996, more money was invested and renovations were carried out. The Hofbräuhaus became a well-known spa hotel in Bodenmais.

In May 2022, we, the Wittmann family, took over the hotel in Bodenmais. We have a long-standing friendship with the Fruhstorfer family, and it is both an honour and an exciting challenge for us to run the business, which has been family-owned and operated for generations. The Fruhstorfer family will continue to advise and support us.
